Built for the bench
Inflates and holds on the first shot, in hole diameters from 4 in / 102 mm to 16 in / 406 mm. No babysitting, no second attempts — reliable across quarry, open-pit, and underground.

BLASTBAGS™ are high-performance gas bags used to create reliable air decks in blastholes, helping reduce explosive consumption and improve fragmentation. These inflatable blast bags provide consistent hole stabilization across quarry, open-pit, and underground operations.

Non-flammable aerosol BLASTBAG™. Two SKUs cover blast holes from 4" to 9 7/8".

Air-operated blast hole plug. Two SKUs cover 2.5"–12.25". Non-DG. Fastest inflation.

The non-metallic, non-dangerous goods BLASTBAG™ with push-latch inflation.
BLASTBAGS™ — also called gas bags, air bags, or decking plugs — do one job: create a reliable air deck inside the blast hole so the explosive column stays where you want it, the stemming holds, and the energy goes into the rock. If you're losing energy to blowouts, getting inconsistent fragmentation, dealing with flyrock at the boundary, or burning through powder you shouldn't need — BLASTBAGS™ could be the fix.
MTi GROUP's range of BLASTBAGS™ is built for production, trim, and pre-split blasting across quarry, open-pit, and underground operations. Sized from 2.5 inches (64mm) through to 12.25 inches (311mm), they fit every standard production hole. Four inflation methods — premium aerosol, multi-fit aerosol, chemical, and compressed air — let you match the bag to the bench, the hole, and the equipment you've got on site.
A BLASTBAG™ sits inside the blast hole at a set depth above the explosive charge. Once inflated, it expands to grip the walls of the hole and seals a void between the explosive column and the stemming material loaded on top — drill cuttings, gravel, or whatever your site uses.
When the charge detonates, the air deck gives the explosive gases a controlled space to expand into before they pressurize the rock. That smooths the pressure pulse, reduces the upward force on the stemming, and keeps the energy in the hole. The stemming holds, less energy vents up the column, and more of every kilogram of explosive goes into breaking rock instead of producing noise, dust, and flyrock.
BLASTBAGS™ can help cut powder factor without giving up fragmentation. By replacing part of the explosive column with a controlled air gap, you reduce bulk explosive use, lower flyrock on the bench, and protect pit walls from near-field damage on trim and pre-split rows. One MTi GROUP customer — a coal operator in the Powder River Basin — cut bulk explosive consumption by 5,300 tonnes (5,842 short tons) per year while maintaining fragmentation and dig rates.

Pick SOLO when you're shooting consistent hole sizes and want the most-trusted bag on the market. Self-contained, single-operator deploy, no extra gear. Inflate it fast or slow. Fits 114–311 mm (4.5"–12.25").
Pick EVO when you're shooting multiple hole sizes on one site. One bag covers 102–251 mm (4"–9⅞") with consistent inflation speed and a single-bladder seal. BLASTBAG™ EVO is a favorite among D&B contractors moving between holes and sites.
Pick ACE II when you need zero metal or non-DG compliance. Chemical inflation, no hazardous materials, metal-detector friendly. Most popular BLASTBAG™ used for underground blasting. Fits 76–229 mm (3"–9").
Pick AERO when you've got compressed air on site, or when you need to deploy through water in long upholes. It can be lowered into place, then inflated. Most economical option for high-volume operations. Fits 64–311 mm (2.5"–12.25").
Inflatable gas bags that hold air decks, seal voids, and cap upholes inside the blast hole — the work that decides how a shot actually performs. Used by drill-and-blast crews across quarry, open-pit, and underground operations to get more out of every blast.
Field-first gear that earns its keep hole after hole.
Inflates and holds on the first shot, in hole diameters from 4 in / 102 mm to 16 in / 406 mm. No babysitting, no second attempts — reliable across quarry, open-pit, and underground.
BLASTBAG™ air decks can cut powder consumption up to 11% per hole while improving fragmentation. Less explosive, better break, less flyrock — proven across coal, copper, gold, and iron ore.
Inflate, drop, and move on. Less manual handling, less bench exposure — one blaster gets the deck in place and moves to the next hole. No tools, no second pass.
FAQ
A gas bag is an inflatable device placed inside a blasthole to plug/block the hole to create an air deck, improving fragmentation and reducing explosive consumption. Gasbags are also used to plug cracks, voids, seal the top of a hole, and to block off water. They’re also sometimes called blast bags, air bags, or blasting bags.
BLASTBAGS™ are inserted into a borehole and inflated to form a stable air gap at a set depth. This air deck helps distribute explosive energy more efficiently for cleaner, more controlled breakage.
No. BLASTBAGS™ are single-use consumables designed to provide consistent, reliable performance each time.
Gas bags are used in open-pit mining, underground blasting, quarry work, pre-splits, wall control, air decking, and any blasting scenario that benefits from reduced vibration or improved fragmentation.
BLASTBAGS™ come in multiple diameters and styles—including SOLO, AERO, ACE II, and EVO—so crews can choose the best option for their hole size and blast design.
BLASTBAGS™ deploy faster, have a much stronger hold, seal better in wet or irregular holes, offer adjustable inflation speed (on some models), and provide more consistent air decks than many mechanical plug alternatives.
