Collar and hole protection is the work that happens at the top of the blast hole — keeping the hole loadable between drilling and charging, and keeping the loaded column intact during the shot. The collar zone is where most preventable blast problems start: drill cuttings and water falling back into the hole, stemming blowing out the top instead of going into the rock, flyrock at the collar that puts crews and equipment at risk, and uphole emulsion that slumps before the cap fires.
MTi GROUP's collar/hole protection range covers both stages of the work. Before loading, the Collarcone Hole Saver caps the hole — an injection-moulded plastic cone that keeps cuttings, rocks, and water out so you're not re-drilling the same hole twice. During loading, BLASTBAGS™ create a collar air deck that reduces flyrock and overpressure; BLASTBALL™ seals wet holes against water at the collar; SLUMPSTOPPA™ holds emulsion in underground upholes. Pre-loading: the Collarcone Hole Saver is the dedicated product for the gap between drilling and loading. Injection-moulded, UV-stabilized, MTi Green high-visibility, with built-in downline clips. Sits at the top of the hole and blocks fall-back from drill cuttings, rocks, and rainwater.
In-loading: the BLASTBAGS™ range (SOLO, EVO, AERO, ACE II, original ACE) creates a sealed air deck at the collar that holds the stemming column and reduces blowouts. BLASTBALL™ does the same with a hermetic bladder rated for wet conditions. SLUMPSTOPPA™ holds emulsion in upholes during charging so the column doesn't slump back down to the collar.
