Eco-friendly product

BLASTBAG™ AERO is an air-operated blastbag used to block, deck, or support explosives in blastholes. It’s designed for sites that run service air and need a clean, simple way to control voids and explosive energy. The AERO uses compressed air only, making it safe, reliable, and easy to run underground.

The dual bladder setup and the tough outer bag stop leaks and hold pressure well  . The snap-on valve connects fast to standard underground air fittings. Once inflated, BLASTBAG™ AERO holds position, protects the drilled hole, caps upholes, and helps improve fragmentation. It also helps cut explosive wastage and control final wall conditions.

MTi also supplies hose reels, inflators, AB-C couplings, weights, and droplines to install the BLASTBAG™ in any direction — even underwater.

How It Works

  1. BLASTBAG™ AERO is placed in the hole and inflated with service air.
  2. The dual bladder expands and grips the walls, creating a deck or seal.
  3. This holds up the column, caps the hole, and protects against ravel or voids.
  4. The AERO keeps pressure without leaking and stays in place until firing.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's - BLASTBAG™ AERO

Where is BLASTBAG™ AERO used?

It is used in both underground and open pit operations. It works in upholes, downholes, and underwater situations where service air is available. It will stay in place even in wet, fractured, or inconsistent ground. With the weighted coupling, the BLASTBAG™ AERO can be lowered through water, then inflated at designed depth. BLASTBAG™ AERO is inflated with an external air source, giving you the option to lower it to depth, and then inflate it. Other plugs are typically initiated at the collar, making it more difficult to lower them very deep into the the borehole.

How does the valve connect?

The AERO uses a snap-on annular coupling that connects directly to standard mine air fittings.

Can the blastbag leak?

No. It uses a dual-bladder construction with a tough outer bag to prevent leakage

What pressure should the blastbag be inflated to?

BLASTBAG™ AERO should typically be inflated between 10-20 PSI.

It should not be inflated to pressures above 20 PSI (76-203 mm) or 10 PSI (230-350 mm). If high depth underwater decking is required, MTi Group should be contacted.

Can BLASTBAG™ AERO be used underwater?

Yes. It can be installed in underwater holes with the right accessories. It stays in place even in wet, fractured, or inconsistent ground. With the weighted coupling, the BLASTBAG™ AERO can be lowered through water, then inflated at designed depth.

Does the AERO allow charge-thru?

Yes. It can cap upholes and allow charging straight through the BLASTBAG™.

Is this the same as a stemming plug?

No. A BLASTBAG™ is an air-operated decking bag, not a mechanical stemming plug. It’s used to hold, separate, or support explosives. It can also be used, however, to support stemming. It can hold substantially more weight/pressure than a stemming plug.

What accessories does it work with?

Hose reels, handheld inflators, AB-C couplings, and droplines — all designed for both open pit and underground installation.
