Environmentally safe components

Most aerosol gas bags come in five or six size variants. That's five or six SKUs to forecast, and five or six decisions the crew makes on the bench.

The BLASTBAG™ EVO does it with two.

Hawk covers blast holes from 4" to 6". Eagle covers 6" to 9 7/8". Between them, you have the hole sizes most open-pit and quarry crews actually shoot. Fewer SKUs. Simpler ordering. One decision on the bench instead of four.

It's a self-inflating bag powered by a non-flammable, non-toxic aerosol. A single gas-tight bladder seals against the hole wall to create a reliable air deck. A pressure sleeve lets you control how fast the bag grips — slower for deeper deployment, faster when you need to keep the crew moving. About 30 seconds per hole. Pre-attached 32 ft string is already in the box.

Whether you’re running production blasts, trim shots, or pre-split applications, BLASTBAG™ EVO delivers dependable confinement with less effort and greater confidence.

Stocking Six Different Bags Is a Pain

Most aerosol blast bags come in four, five, or six size variants to cover a typical open-pit range. That means you stock six of the same product in different diameters. The crew has to grab the right one for each pattern. Orders get split across more SKUs. Forecasting gets harder. And when you're short one size, the shot waits.

There's a simpler way.

The BLASTBAG™ EVO covers blast holes from 4" to 9 7/8" with just two bags. Hawk handles 4" to 6". Eagle handles 6" to 9 7/8". That's it. For most production benches, one of those two is what you're reaching for.

Here's what that means on the ground:

  • Two SKUs instead of six
  • One SKU decision for the shot, not four
  • Easier ordering, easier inventory counts
  • Less time deciding which bag fits the hole

It's the same reliable blasthole plug. Just fewer parts to manage.

What Is the BLASTBAG™ EVO?

Product Overview

The EVO is a self-inflating blast hole bag powered by a non-flammable, non-toxic aerosol. A single gas-tight bladder seals against the hole wall to create a reliable air deck. You depress the actuator, lower the bag with the pre-attached string, and let it reach full pressure.

What makes the EVO different from other aerosol bags is the pressure sleeve. Slide the sleeve along the actuator to control how fast the bag grips. Sleeve fully on slows it down. Pulled halfway speeds it up. You pick the timing that fits the hole and the conditions. You also cover a wide range of hole sizes with two bags.

Key Benefits at a Glance

  • Two SKUs: Hawk (4"–6") and Eagle (6"–9 7/8") cover the hole sizes most open-pit and quarry crews shoot.
  • Non-flammable, non-toxic gas: Safer to transport, safer to store in a typical mine-site shed.
  • Pressure sleeve control: Dial the grip speed without needing a different bag.
  • Pre-attached 32 ft string: Lower the bag to depth with what's already in the box.
  • Single-bladder design: Holds a consistent seal from shot to shot.
  • About 30 seconds per hole: Fast enough to keep the crew moving.

The BLASTAG™ EVO is a popular pick with drilling and blasting companies that shoot multiple hole sizes and want fewer SKUs to manage.

  • Air Decking with BLASTBAG™ EVO

Air decking creates a gap of air between explosive charges or explosives and stemming in the borehole. It can reduce vibration and gives you more control of energy distribution. BLASTBAG™ EVO excels at this.

The air deck/gap allows explosive gases to expand into that zone and fracture the rock. You can load a second charge or stem directly on the BLASTBAG™ EVO without concern of collapse or slumping. It will support your decks consistently from shot to shot.

Use air decking when you need:

    • Reduced vibration in sensitive areas
    • Improved pre-split and wall control
    • Controlled fragmentation
    • Reduced flyrock
    • Reduced explosive cost
  • blastbag uses for air decking and other applications in mining

How It Works

🛢️

Non-Flammable, Non-Toxic Aerosol

The can holds non-flammable, non-toxic gas. Safer to carry, safer to store on site.
✊🏻

Pressure Sleeve Grip Control

Slide the sleeve to change how fast the bag grips the hole wall. Leave it fully on to slow things down. Pull it halfway to speed it up.
🧵

Pre-Attached 32 ft String

Lower the bag to depth with the string already tied on. No extra tools. No rigging.
🫧

Single Gas-Tight Bladder

One strong bladder holds pressure without leaks. The bag keeps its seal from shot to shot.
⏱️

About 30 Seconds Per Hole

Press the actuator. Lower to depth. Let the bag reach full pressure. Move to the next hole.

Works in Any Conditions

⛏️

Open Pit and Quarry Benches

Designed for the hole sizes most production shots use. Handles daily bench work and pre-splits without issue.

🔄

Mixed Hole Sizes

Two SKUs cover the range most crews need. Less inventory. Less guessing on the bench.

💨

Fast, One-Person Deployment

Pre-attached string. Depress the actuator, lower the bag in, let the sleeve control the grip. About 30 seconds per hole.

💧

Dry and Damp Holes

Single gas-tight bladder seals against the wall. Works across typical bench conditions.

Which Size Do I Need?

Pick the bag that matches your blast hole diameter. Most sites only need one or the other, but crews that rotate between smaller and larger holes carry both.

  • HAWK (03-599): blast holes from 4" to 6". Good fit for trim shots, pre-splits, and smaller production holes.
  • EAGLE (03-598): blast holes from 6" to 9 7/8". The common production hole size on most open-pit benches.

If you shoot holes larger than 9 7/8" regularly, contact our team — we'll point you to the right product for your pattern.

How to Install

Step-by-Step Installation

1

Pick the Right Size

Match the bag to your blast hole diameter. Hawk covers 4" to 6". Eagle covers 6" to 9 7/8". If the hole is on the edge between the two, go with the larger bag for a tighter seal.

2

Set the Pressure Sleeve

Leave the sleeve fully on for a slower, more controlled grip. Pull it halfway for faster inflation. Pick whichever gives you the timing you want for this shot.

3

Depress the Actuator

Press the actuator fully. The non-flammable aerosol starts inflating the bag right away.

4

Lower to Depth

Use the pre-attached 32 ft string to lower the bag to your marked depth. Keep the string taut so the bag travels straight down the hole.

5

Let It Grip the Wall

Once the bag reaches designed depth, stop lowering. Let the bag reach full pressure against the hole. It only takes a few more seconds.

6

Load, Stem, Shoot

Tie off the string at the collar or drop it in. Wait about 20 minutes to load your explosive column and stem as usual.

Pro Tips

  • Store the box below 122°F and keep it out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep the bag in its packaging until you're ready to deploy it.
  • If the hole size is right at 6", either Hawk or Eagle will work — go with Eagle if the wall is a bit irregular.
  • In cold weather, let the box warm up inside the pickup before use for the most consistent deployment.

Storage & Safety

🌡️

Keep It Cool

Do not store above 122°F (50°C). Heat above that can damage the aerosol system.

☀️

Out of Direct Sunlight

Keep boxes in a covered, shaded area. Prolonged exposure to the sun can raise internal temperature past the safe range.

📦

In the Box Until Use

Leave the bags in their original packaging until the crew is ready to deploy. The box protects the actuator from accidental triggering.

🌬️

Ventilated Storage

Store in a well-ventilated space that meets your site's dangerous goods handling rules.

⚠️

Class 9 Dangerous Goods

Classified as Dangerous Goods in Apparatus under UN GHS. Store and transport per your local DG regulations.
